EDF PEI
The client’s objectives and expectations
The future Larivot bioenergy power plant, replacing the former thermal power plant, is a key project for French Guiana. Operating on liquid biomass, it represents a major step towards 100% renewable energy. This project, the largest ever awarded to companies from French Guiana, will deliver a capacity of 120 MW. Located in a strategic industrial area, it benefits from optimal proximity to high-voltage transmission lines. Its flexible output can be adjusted in real time to energy demand, providing an innovative and sustainable solution to secure French Guiana’s energy supply and support its development.

Our main responsibilities
HSSE (Health, Safety, Security and Environment) prevention is a priority for EDF PEI, which aims for zero accidents. We are committed to ensuring safety and protecting the health of all project stakeholders.
Project characteristics
The Larivot bioenergy power plant, planned for a 25-year lifespan, will run on liquid biomass, a 100% renewable biofuel sourced from sustainable supply chains, in accordance with the decree of 27 August 2021. Equipped with seven high-performance engines, it will provide a total output of 120 MW. Its flexible generation capacity will adapt to the population’s energy needs and to the evolution of local power generation assets.
Results achieved
Client satisfaction and renewal of the service contract for 2025.
It has been a great satisfaction to have worked on a meaningful project enabling the implementation of a district heating network powered entirely by renewable energy. Since early January 2024, I have been thriving in my role as an HSSE site safety officer. I needed a period of adaptation to the climatic conditions (rainy and dry seasons). My day-to-day professionalism with external contractors has helped establish a relationship of trust, also shared by EDF PEI. I have been able to apply my HSE expertise to various situations encountered on site. At the end of 2024, and in agreement with the client, we decided to extend this great collaboration throughout 2025.
